This photograph spoke to me as the "shadow" here deprived the subjects and the ground of their depth, their color, many identifying marks, in favor of bright, magnificent colors that are both common and unusual. How many times does the spectacular obscure nearby details? Yet, obscuring some details, such as facial features, can emphasize other qualities, such as our smallness in nature's vastness.
